A few days ago, @rwtrekker caught his leg on a key sticking out of his office desk drawer and sliced a hole in his jeans.
I told him I'd repair the rip and turn them into shorts (something he needed anyway) because he really doesn't need another pair of yard work jeans.
I cleaned up the hole, fused some woven interfacing to the inside, and used a very small stitch to sew around the hole. Then I just continued to machine sew back & forth randomly across the hole until the edges seemed to be stitched over enough not to fray.
I cut the legs off just above the knee and hemmed them. Now he has a pair of jean shorts that are good enough to wear anywhere.

I started cutting all the edges while Janet was away yesterday morning. When she got back after lunch, she pulled out a roller and started filling in. I'll put a pic below in the comments. #SewingStudioBuild
We broke for lunch and then came back with a portal ac unit plugged in to an extention cord from the house. Can't wait until they finished hooking up all the electrical and we have the mini split cooling the room for us - it was stupid humid today! #SewingStudioBuild

I'm kind of surprised I have to sign up for emails (not sure if I want to yet) considering how many companies sell email lists.
I finally finished the patchwork jeans! @SewBrooke , the elastic in the waistband suggestion worked brilliantly. I ended up taking it as close to the button/buttonholes as I could, because the waistband I originally picked had the buttons on the wrong side and I had to piece it together/the second waistband was also collapsed in from wear. I really don’t know why, I checked against all of my jeans and I did put the fly on the correct side! Anyway, it’s done, and I’ll be happy to come up with a project that takes much less time. After I clean up the leftover bits— it looks like I used 7 pairs of jeans/shorts, so I have a lot of tops and leftover leg/waistband scraps!
