I’ve managed to start the patchwork part of my pants project. I decided to do the top parts for all four main pieces first, since I do want to minimize extra bulky seams here. But I’m having fun with the details — already topstitched narrow seams to cover the back darts, and I had to incorporate a double topstitched seam to get a wide enough portion for the fronts. I especially didn’t want extra bulk here because of the patch pockets and zipper fly. But I think/hope the double lines here will end up looking fun. From here, I’m probably just going to cut strips from the jeans and place them more randomly, after I actually cut the fly pieces. Though, if I can get the placement right, I might also go ahead and add some extra reinforcement for the knees.
I spent the day priming things for paint and then I remembered to shoot a quick video. #SewingStudioBuild
I started cutting all the edges while Janet was away yesterday morning. When she got back after lunch, she pulled out a roller and started filling in. I'll put a pic below in the comments. #SewingStudioBuild
We broke for lunch and then came back with a portal ac unit plugged in to an extention cord from the house. Can't wait until they finished hooking up all the electrical and we have the mini split cooling the room for us - it was stupid humid today! #SewingStudioBuild
I decided to flatline the silk charmeuse to the poly satin lining for all the giant skirt pieces. It's a lot of extra prepwork, but I think it will save us a bunch of grief in the end. Using the wrong fabric for a project is always a pain.
I rolled out the poly satin and then rolled the charmeuse on top, wrong sides together. Then I traced the pattern pieces, pinned the layers together, cut, and hand basted together - all before moving the pieces.
The charmeuse is a little wrinkly from the roll (and I think we forgot to stream pre-shrink this one) but I'm over it and this dress gets a matching lilac satin faced organza overlay anyway, so I'm just going with it.

I've been cutting lots of big skirt pieces and haven't really remembered to take many photos because nothing is all that interesting to look at. I think I have 4 more skirts and 3 more skirt linings to cut. (I've been putting off the narrow charmeuse ones until the end because ugh.)
So here are a few pics I did take. The long paper pattern that's hanging off the cutting table is the pattern I adapted from the 1954 vintage pattern. I can't wait to see how that mockup looks when it's sewn.

I hit the Italian tailoring class yday. It is just an enrichment class (apparently real classes exist somewhere) but I gathered a lot of info. I know how to do much of this stuff - just didn't know how to apply it, and haven't seen clothing of this quality.
Five hours and my head was bursting from staring at the insides of really well made clothing and taking notes. Three more classes to go! We'll have some proper instruction next time, but we're also welcome to bring projects for dissection/help. So, now I need to decide on a project.
